Is mass[Wallets] custodial? Who holds the keys?

How custody works in mass[Wallets] and why we cannot recover keys.

mass[Wallets] is designed as a fully non-custodial stack. We do not take possession of your users’ assets, and we cannot sign transactions on their behalf.

In practice that means:

  • Private keys and signing material are controlled by the user through the embedded wallet provider integrated into the product — not by mass[Wallets] staff.

  • We cannot reset a user’s wallet, reconstruct a seed phrase, or reverse an on-chain transfer.

  • Branded stablecoin reserves on mass[Currency] sit in non-custodial smart contracts rather than in a mass[Wallets] omnibus account.

If a user contacts you (or us) saying they lost access, the honest answer is the non-custodial answer: recovery follows whatever backup method that user set up in the wallet. There is no admin override.
